About Australian diamond grading laboratories.
There are a few Australian diamond grading laboratories such as
GSL (Gem Studies laboratory) in Sydney,
DCLA (Diamond Certification Laboratory of Australia) also in Sydney,
Aus-Cert and
Bauer laboratories in Melbourne.
They may not have the fame as the above four international diamond grading laboratories but they know how to grade diamonds properly and they will provide a detailed grading diamond certificate that looks as good as what the international diamond grading laboratories provide. We will accept diamonds that are certified by any one of these Australian diamond grading laboratories just as willingly as diamonds certified by any one of the above overseas grading laboratories.
Where do the best diamonds come from?
In this day and age, where nearly every large diamond of at least a decent quality is certified then it doesn’t really matter where the diamond came from, as long as it’s from a non-conflict source. Also it’s impossible for a diamond grading laboratory to know where the diamond was mined. That is why diamond grading certificates don’t show where the diamond was mined or cut, because the laboratories don’t know for sure. They cannot take the word of the business that gave them the diamond for certification, as then it would defeat the purpose why they are independent for grading diamonds.
